We’ve learned that listening to the advice and recommendations of the locals (aka. Andrea APP) typically point us in the right direction, and so far, everything has been great. La Stalla was one of these suggestions, and we were in the area, so why not, we gave it a shot.
Thank goodness we did.
We drove up this dark little road with signs for “Camping”. . . it wasn’t looking too promising. But, we finally saw a sign pointing onwards to La Stalla and found it by a campground next to a hotel!
We were able to get a table right in front of the stone oven/grill that they were cooking all the meat on, and it was mouth-watering to just watch the creation of these delicious meals. The cook was fantastic; we watched her throw in huge sticks to keep the fire burning while rattling the coals and slabbing on the meat!
The cooks at work <3
We had a bottle of red wine, Fontemaggio Umbria Rossa, Bistecca (beef/veal steak), potatoes cooked in the coals, caramelized onions, and a Kebab (with 2 sausages and 3 pork ribs). After we ordered, we literally saw them take the meat out and throw them onto the grill top. It was awesome to see our food being cooked right in front of us.
When our food finally came out, it looked and smelled amazing. We didn’t waste any time digging in, and it was magical. The food wasn’t drenched in seasoning and sauces, but it had just the right amount of flavor to go with its freshness. There were 4 of us, and we each had an entree dish and shared 2 dishes of potatoes and 2 dishes of onions. We thought it was going to be too much, but we actually finished almost everything!
We were extremely satisfied after this meal, and we’re definitely planning on coming back for a few more meals while we’re here. This restaurant may seem a bit out of the way, but it’s well worth it!
