This is the place where I’m surrounded by family and friends who are basically family now. This is the place where I feel most comfortable. This is the place where I know the ins and outs and “insider tips.”
This is also the place that I left.
Louisville has been home to me for the past 10 years. Little did I know that after moving here in 2007, that I would remain in the city throughout my high school years as well as college and graduate school. And honestly, I do not regret it. I made some of my best friendships here, people that I know that I can call up as we grey together, no matter the distance in between.
However, August came this year, and it was time to leave this home. It was time to push myself to create a new life elsewhere. With everything packed into a van, I made my way across the country– sitting in the passenger seat as my boyfriend drove– to settle on the coast of Santa Monica in sunny California.
This was the beginning of our new lives.
It has been refreshing to say the least. We’ve been Lyfting around town and strolling on new sidewalks past places we’ve never seen. We’re in for all sorts of surprises here and that’s okay.
We have the chance to push our limits, to see how far we can get, and to pursue countless new opportunities. This is the moment we’ve been waiting for, and we will create something beautiful here.
Louisville will always be our home of nostalgia, but Santa Monica, you are our home now.
Cheers to new beginnings!
